The Beginning

Updated: Jan 26

It's hot

Everyone has a story. We come to where we are and that coming has a story. There are so many common parts to everyone's story: We are born, we age, we love, hate, laugh, cry, learn and re-learn. We get stuck, we get hurt, we fail, we succeed. Finally we leave this life. This life is appearing shorter all the time; at least to me. In between these commonalities are our individual experiences, histories, impressions and feelings. Your story is yours alone; you may share it, you may tell it, but you're the only one who can actually FEEL it (unless you're Spock and can mind meld; always wanted to do that). Pretty incredible that among the billions of humans on this planet that you are the only one that's you. Isn't it?

This story is the latest exploration/adventure of my life. I want it to be a shared, purposeful part of my own story as I move forward through my 6th decade on this earth. My hope is to share my experience and experiences with others who may have some common areas of experience to discuss and explore. I am also hoping to provide excellent resources for best practices, products and information around supplies and practices for horses, and humans; particularly humans of a certain age ..ahem..such as myself. Turns out the physical resiliency of youth doesn't last forever; darn it, so what is a person to do about that?

In the interests of full transparency, the specific 'purposeful' content of this blog shall include:

  • Horse crazy women 'of a certain age'. I've just crossed 60, so infer what you'd like from that.

  • Horses. All kinds of horses. Horses are what we do. (I know we have other things we do. This is not for that except when we run off on a tangent..which we will)

  • Stories. I have LONG wanted to write a book of short stories. They're not all about horses, also they're in the pages attached to this blog. Read them at your peril here, because I'll never get around to actually writing that book of short stories..probably).

  • Products we NEED. OK and/or WANT. Full disclosure; my intent is to monetize this page, however there are some standards I'd like to set around the monetization part (with the caveat that from a technical perspective I might screw that up).

    • No content written by me will come from AI. Ick.

    • Product links will be for highly recommended products.

      • Some product links will be there and will not benefit me a lick, but they will be great products that I've come to believe in or rely on.

      • Some links will get you a discount if you purchase through the link I provide (see the Palouse Shelter link..I own 3 of their shelters) and I get store credit in return, for instance.

      • Some links might generate a commission for me, however if it's posted then I've dealt with that company as a BUYER.

  • Things will evolve and change as I figure out which end is up, and which buttons to push, and when I get a better laptop. ARGH.

  • You'll help me out a lot if you would:

    • Subscribe

    • Fill out the contact google form (email only and first name) it's in the VALUABLE LINKS LIST and also HERE. This way I can send special offers out to only those folks, when I get that far (I think).

Last, but not least and to give you some context about what might get thrown into this blog venture thing are the following facts about my interests and content concerns:

  • I reside in the Pacific NW in the USA

  • I have 3 horses.

    • A 9 year old Azteca mare; famous for her mare 'tude and her ability get injured and injure others. Mostly me.

    • A 2 year old Lusitano/Pre gelding. I have no idea what's up with me buying him..but I mean LOOK at him...(above).

    • A 13 year old TB/Paint cross. Giant chocolate lab posing as a horse.

    • I work full time at a hospital, running an imaging department

    • I'm chronically busy. I just finished building an indoor arena.

    • I am an enthusiastic Working Equitation member (USAWE) so much so that I am currently serving on the Board of Directors of this young organization.

    • I'm feeling the effects of age and work constantly on minimizing the aches and pains of that.

That's it for this edition! It was my goal for this Saturday to: Get 100 bales of hay transported (2nd of 6 loads). Check. Get the sign-ups out for my next Pippa Callinan clinic (she's AMAZING). Check. Blog started. Check. Time to go feed the horses. See you in the barn aisle!
